Andrew is finally old enough to play soccer this spring. When I found out, I thought Dan would be thrilled. He said he thought he was too young, but Andrew wants to play. Anyway, we assembled a team of some good friends, and the only thing we needed was a coach! I asked Dan if he wanted to coach, and he said no, they don't care about the game yet, they don't even keep score! Well, there was no else would coach, so Dan agreed to help his friend Terry coach. Terry coach last year, but only because no one else would! Anyway, Saturday, Terry's son, Jonathan, was at our house so Dan decided to practice coaching on Andrew and Jonathan. First thing they ran outside, and Jonathan got in the soccer goal pretending to be a lion in a cage and Andrew turned into a Power Ranger! Dan called them in, and said there is no being silly in soccer. So then he told them to try to keep the ball away from each other. Andrew ran off when Jonathon came near him, and Jonathan gave Andrew a hug and told him he could have the ball. Dan counted to ten about 100 times, and explained to them that there was no giving the ball to someone on the other team, no running away from the ball, and certainly no hugging in soccer! The boys just looked at him and laughed. At this point I am laughing so hard I am crying! Dan said he was going to "bench" the boys if they didn't quit acting silly. I explained to them being benched was time-out, and they shaped up! Then Dan would put the ball in front of their foot, and say don't kicked the ball before I tell you to, and with that, they would kick the ball, and laugh! After this happened several times, I told the little boys they could have candy if they played soccer and listened to Mr. Dan. They liked that plan a lot! The little boys actually learned a lot and ended up having a great time. I think the verdict is still out on Dan. Jonathan went home, and his dad asked how the soccer practice was. Jonathan replied good, and Mr. Dan actually knows how to play! This season should make for some great blogs!
